Camp Decision 2020

Dear Adventure Camp Families,

It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that the Boardman Park Officials have decided to cancel Adventure Day Camp in its entirety for summer 2020. We have been doing our best to continue organizing and putting plans in place for the summer. However, bringing together children and teens from around the community is not a feasible option in the current climate. We feel that making a decision at this time will help our families be able to begin alternate planning for summer.

It was our full intention to develop a new camp structure to accommodate the government guidelines, however we continued to try to navigate a challenging lack of clarity on the risk of COVID-19 and how to mitigate those guidelines to our camp setting.  An incredible amount of research, thought and care went into this gut-wrenching outcome.

Campers safety is first and for most, but the other factor we had to consider in our decision making was the economic side of this situation.  Boardman Park, like most other local government entities, have suffered significant financial consequences due to COVID-19. Currently, our facilities are still not opened, and we do not have dates to know a specific timeline of when we will reopen recreational and reservation use. Ultimately, we have come to the understanding that because of the risk of the unknown, the best way to make sure Boardman Park’s Adventure Day Camp can continue for years to come, is to pause operations for now.

Where do we go from here? I will proceed to cancel all camp registrations for you via sports connection.  We are working with Making Kids Count to offer those families who had signed up for Adventure Day Camp a “Camp in a Box” activity kit at no charge. The Camp in the Box will be filled with crafts, science experiments and fun activities that the staff will be passing along to the campers so that they will have the ability to have some of the camp experiences at home.  I know this is a far cry from what you were hoping for this Summer. I too would love to provide the Adventure Camp Experience, but this is our new reality.  I will email with more information on pick up dates for the boxes in the next couple weeks.

We hope more than ever, Adventure Day Camp will be a much-needed place for our Camp community in 2021. We try and create an environment that is full of fun, friendship, and kindness, away from the normal pressures and worries of normal life for our campers. While summer 2020 is not possible for us, we hope you and your family are willing to wait another year for a summer adventure at Adventure Day Camp.

Stay Safe, Healthy and Happy
Ms. Karen and the Adventure Camp Staff
